Sage CRM 2019 R2 has been focussed on changing the way that ISVs and partners can bring increased value to customers. As a consequence, this release may not appear a big release for customers but there are some important changes in the product such as the added support for Exchange 2019 and Office 2019.

All of the release notes, the guides and the online help can be found on the Help Center (http://help.sagecrm.com). This should be the first place that you look for help around the features and supported environments for all supported versions of Sage CRM.

We need to consider the changes in supported software. This affects not just the servers but also the devices that are used to access integrated Sage CRM.

What's Changed?

There have been quite a few changes

We have added support for

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2019
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Essentials

While dropping support for

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials

And we have changed the support for the database to say that we support

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2017 CU15 and earlier

And we no longer support Microsoft SQL Server 2014 SP2, Standard or Enterprise in production environments – please note that whilst you can install on Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Express, Sage Support will address only those issues that can be reproduced on a Standard or Enterprise edition of the SQL Server versions listed above.

Mobile has seen some changes to support for Android 8.0 Oreo or later and iOS 12.x being added with support for Android 5.0 Lollipop and iOS 10.x being dropped.

The biggest change is the addition of support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2019 and Microsoft Office 2019 that affects everything from Exchange integration, the Outlook Plugins and Mail Merge and Data Uploads. And the flip side of that is that we no longer support Microsoft Office 2013 and Exchange 2013.

Customers are supported in their upgrades from Sage CRM 2017 onwards.

You can use the Sage CRM 2019 R2 installation package to upgrade from versions 2019 R1, 2018 R3, 2018 R2,
2018 R1, 2017 R3, 2017 R2, 2017 R1

To upgrade from an earlier version of Sage CRM, please first upgrade to one of the versions listed above.

Customers who are on older versions of the product that are now out of support are strongly encouraged to upgrade. You may think that long-tail upgrade paths can be off putting but they are not as bad as it may first appear. Moving from Sage CRM 7.1 to Sage CRM 2019 R2 is highly desirable - it will open new features for every customer and give them a much better experience - but does not represent too difficult a journey.

A customer using 7.1 would need to upgrade to 7.2 via 7.1 SP1 or SP2. But once on 7.2, you can upgrade to Sage CRM 7.3 SP3 without any patch being applied and from there you can jump to Sage CRM 2017 and from thence to Sage CRM 2019 R2.

We still need to prepare carefully for an upgrade.

We can break the process of a customer upgrade into 3 distinct phases.

  • Preparation
  • A performance of a test upgrade
  • Then the actual upgrade of the production or live system.
